| A workshop on Virtual Labs in Physical, Chemical & Biological Sciences on 16 & 17 April 2013

KNOWLEDGE OF SCIENCE AT THE DOOR STEP Students from any where in the country can now carry out Laboratory experiments if they have a computer with Internet connection. They can access remote lab in various disciplines of Science & Engineering and enrich their knowledge on Science and Technology through virtual lab. A workshop conducted at VMKV Engineering College, Salem in this direction is a beginning but a giant leap in understanding Science and promoting inquest temperament on Science & Technology. Hereafter Physical distances and lack of resources will no longer be an obstacle for faculty and students of Science & Technology in conducting laboratory experiments. What is required is a computer with Internet connection.
A National project funded by MHRD, New Delhi under National Mission on Education through Information & Communication Technology (NME – ICT), Amrita University, Kollam developed virtual lab on various disciplines in association with premier IITs of the country and selected VMKV Engineering College, Salem as a nodal centre and a regional hub for implementing the project in view of vast infrastructure available at the college. The workshop on Virtual Labs in Physical, Chemical and Biological Sciences has been conducted for two days on 16th & 17th April 2013 at the College in association with Amrita University, Kollam. Faculties and Students from VMKV Engineering and colleges all over Tamilnadu attended the workshop.
In the inaugural session Dr.A.Nagappan, Principal of VMKV Engineering College presided over the function and Mr.Snehal Shetty, Prof. Cyber Security, Amrita University, Kollam was the Chief Guest. Dr.V.Anbazhagan, Associate Professor and Nodal Centre Coordinator welcomed the dignitaries and participants. In his address as Chief Guest Mr.Snehal Shetty outlined the use of virtual lab in this internet era and the advantages over the conventional way of conducting experiments within the four walls of the class room and the access to acquire latest trend in Science & Technology even from remote places. A team of experts on Virtual Lab Project from Amrita University explained the concepts and conducted demonstrations on various scientific experiments utilizing virtual laboratory.
The participants very much appreciated the innovative and the cost effective way of understanding science and the simple and unlimited way of conducting scientific experiments and that too at their place itself by simply clicking the button. They have also had an opportunity to get hands on experience of working in virtual lab. The participants expressed their happiness and appreciation to VMKV Engineering College for conducting such a workshop and assured that the knowledge gained by them would be passed on to the benefit of theirstudents.
Dr.C.Senthil Kumar Associate professor Department of Physics VMKV Engineering College, Salem proposed vote of thanks. In his address he specially mentioned the encouragement and inspiration extended by Dr.A.Nagappan, Principal of the College in conducting the above workshop at the college and the Amrita University for their excellent cooperation in designing the virtual lab in a practical manner. The faculties of Department of Physics and Chemistry have made elaborate arrangements for the success of the workshop.

 National Level Conference on Advances in Mechanical Engineering – “NCAME 2013” has been conducted at VMKV Engineering College, Salem on 12th April 2013 at AC Auditorium of the College. Dr.K.G.Muthurajan Dean, School of Mechanical Sciences welcomed the dignitaries and participants. Dr.A.Nagappan, Principal of the college presided over the function. Dr.D.Senthil Kumar, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Sona College of Engineering, Salem has been the Chief Guest of the conference. Dr.A.Nagappan in his presidential address very much appreciated the leading role played by the Department of Mechanical Engineering in promoting academic knowledge, discipline among the students, cultivating entrepreneurial skill and organizing such academic oriented programs in furtherance of knowledge. Dr.D.Senthil Kumar the Chief Guest delivered keynote address on the latest advancements in the field of Mechanical Engineering and advised the students to develop their skill in creating innovative ideas while learning and traced various career opportunities available to the Mechanical Engineer in a developing Nation like India. Good number of students from VMKV Engineering College and other colleges in association with their guide has presented research papers on innovative projects in the field of Mechanical Engineering. A glossy and educative souvenir, highlighting the academic achievements and excellences of the students of Mechanical Engineering and the Department has been released in the function.
Prof.N.Rajan, HoD and Prof.S.Duraithilagar, Organizing secretary of the conference have made elaborate arrangements for the successful conduct of the event.

Salem Vinayaka Missions Krupananda Variyar Engineering College Celebrated 65th Independence Day 15th morning 9.30 am at College campus. Dr. A. Nagappan, Principal of the College presided over the function. Vinayaka Missions University Vice Chancellor Dr.V.R.R.Rajendren hasted the National Flag and distributed the sweets. And also Dr. P. Senguttuvan,Vice Principal, all Department Deans , Professors and Students attended the functions. |
| B. Karthick BE 2nd year student won laurels in 25th Tamilnadu State Taekwondo Championship - 2012

 We are happy to inform that our student B. Karthick studying BE 2nd Year in Aeronautical Engineering at VMKV Engineering College one of the constituent colleges of Vinayaka Missions University, Salem has won laurels in 25th Tamilnadu State Taekwondo Championship - 2012 held from 27.07.2012 to 29.07.2012 at Neyveli. He has adjudged the best Winner up in the competition and awarded the Gold Medal. His ability in Martial Art has been acclaimed by the Management, Principal Dr. A. Nagappan, Physical Director’s and Faculties of the college.

| Blood Donation Camp at VMKVEC

Salem Vinayaka Missions Kirupananda Variyar Engineering college National Service Scheme (Units I-IV) & Vinayaka Missions Hospital Blood Bank jointly celebrated the Birthday of their University Chairman Dr.A Shanmugasundram by organizing a Blood Donation Camp on Friday July 6th 2012, morning 9.30am in their college A/C auditorium. V.M.K.V Engineering College Principal Dr.A.Nagappan inaugurated the blood donation camp.Vinayaka Missions Hospital Blood Bank Consultant Dr.M.Joshua Daniel explained regarding the blood donation to the students. Principal Dr.A. Nagappan explained about the need for blood donationto the students. He stated that, the students of this college are donating blood to various hospitals in and around Salem district during Emergency situations. He also asked the blood bank to approach the college during Emergency. In this camp more than 150 students donated their blood. Dr.P. Senkuttuvan, Dean Electronics and Dr.C.S. Ramani Gopal, Dean MBA also attended and gave their bloods in the camp. Arrangements for this camp were done by Dr.P. Selvam coordinator for NSS, Vinayaka Missions University, Prof. P.K. Kumaresan, Dean Exam cum CAO, Prof. G. SureshKumar, Mr.R. Venkatesh, Mr.J. SatheeshBabu & the NSS Volunteers.
